In the Travis HS engineering program, students can gain industry certification in Computer Aided Design (CAD), create functioning prototypes and build their engineering skills. Students also learn about different career paths, presentation building and ethics in a project-based learning environment, and have access to our purpose-designed, on-campus MakerSpace!

As Freshmen, Rebel Engineers learn about careers, presentation building, ethics, and beginning making (creating prototypes). We also learn the beginning steps for computer aided design (CAD) using Solidworks for our canvas.

Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors learn more engineering skills and become proficient with professional presentations and computer aided designs, while also creating prototypes that function in the real world.

Year 1 - Engineering Essentials - Honors Credit

Engineering Essentials (EE) is the first course in the engineering sequence here at Travis. This course will introduce students to engineering concepts and careers and pathways in engineering. This course provides a good foundation for students interested in STEM. In this course, students will learn: how to utilize a variety of tools, how to utilize the engineering design process, how to document data, how to utilize a computer and software like Inventor and Office, how to collaborate and work in teams, among other things. This class is also offered in Spanish as a Dual Language course.

Year 2 - Intro to Engineering Design - Honors Credit

Intro to Engineering Design is the second course in the engineering sequence here at Travis. This is the first PLTW course in the engineering sequence. This course will continue some of the concepts covered in Principles of Applied Engineering, but focus more on computer modeling with Inventor and design challenges focusing on the application of engineering skills, both in teams and individually. By the end of the course, students will have a greater understanding of engineering design and applying the engineering design process. At the end of the semester, there is the option of certifying in Inventor.

Year 3 - Engineering Design and Problem Solving - Honors Credit

This course is an exciting and engaging course developed to inspire the next generation of engineers. You will have the option of pursuing College Freshman Level Engineering Credit at the University of Texas (which may be valid at other Texas public colleges; check with individual colleges for specifics) through the Dual Enrollment option. More information can be found at: engineeryourworld.org

Year 4 - Principles of Engineering - Honors Credit

This course will introduce the techniques of design, testing, redesigning, and analyzing the final product. Projects will expose you to many different disciplines in engineering and the projects will be based on real hands-on devices. Students will work in small teams applying engineering techniques to produce the best products with the best solutions. Collaborative, student-directed projects will build resilient problem-solving skills and empower

students to learn to think like engineers, adopt engineering processes, and to pursue engineering disciplines that may be of interest to them.

Principles of Engineering is the third course in the engineering sequence here at Travis. This is the first PLTW course in the engineering sequence. This course will continue some of the concepts covered in Principles of Applied Engineering and Intro to Engineering design, but focus more on the application of engineering skills involving math, physics, and programming. By the end of the course, students will have a greater understanding of engineering design and applying the engineering design process.

Industry Certification: Autodesk Inventor - User
Articulated Credit: 3-4 credit hours each year, beginning in the sophomore year.
