Visual Arts
Our Visual Arts program helps students develop skill in a variety of different media, including drawing, sculpture, printmaking and painting. We learn elements of art theory and history, composition, technique and how to use tools and materials. Travis art students have a proven track record of success at state and national level competitions.
Photography
Commercial Photography teaches all elements of the photographic process, including use of DSLR cameras, studio lighting and composition as well as industry-standard software such as Photoshop and Lightroom.
Music
Travis offers aspiring musicians the opportunity to join musical programs such as marching band, drumline, jazz band, wind ensemble, classical guitar and orchestra. As well as improving their technical skills, students learn music theory, performance skills, teamwork, and regularly compete at a city and state level.
Guitar
Our award-winning, nationally-recognized classical guitar program is open to freshman through senior students. Students graduating from the program have gone on to attend prestigious colleges across the state of Texas, and have been awarded over $200,000 in scholarships. Our recent achievements include performing at the National Association for Musical Education's national conference in Grapevine, Texas in November 2018 as well as placing second at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's National Guitar Ensemble competition in the spring of 2017. The Travis Guitar Ensemble has been fortunate to work with some of the finest guitar educators in the world, including Joseph V Williams, Dr. Joseph Palmer and Pepe Romero.
Travis Rebel Marching Band
The Travis Rebel Marching Band's history dates back to the schoo's founding in 1953, and has been described as "the backbone of all the pride and spirit of Travis" for sporting events and pep rallies. The Rebel Marching Band has been a Texas State UIL marching finalist several times, and received numerous first division superior ratings throughout our history. In addition to being well-known across the state of Texas, our band is also recognized for excellence across the country, having participated in many parades and festivals.
Wind Ensemble
The William B. Travis Wind ensemble is nationally renowned, having achieved multiple UIL sweepstakes ratings, first division ratings and other awards since the school's founding. The wind ensemble plays a variety of musical genres including marches, classical, traditional, soundtracks, jazz, contemporary and more! While developing members as musicians and professionals, the program also helps to expand their musical diet and vocabulary.
Mariachi Ensemble
Travis has enjoyed a long history of Mariachi, being the first high school in Austin ISD to offer the ensemble as an elective credit. The ensemble is open to any student enrolled at Travis—the only requirement is an interest in learning how to practice, perform and become an active Mariachi in the community. Mariachi Rebelde provide performances to local schools, businesses and events. If you are interested in requesting a performance, please contact Mr. Rodriguez at jonathan.rodriguez2@austinisd.org.
