Travis Family & Community Newsletter - October 6 (Attendance Special Edition)

We hope students enjoyed their 4 day weekend and are ready to go this week! A reminder that next Monday, October 14 is a student holiday in honor of Indigenous Peoples Day. This week is also Principal Appreciation Week. Shout out to Ms. Hodges!!

We will have a special schedule on Wednesday for the PSAT. See the schedule below. Students will have to turn off and store devices during the test window. They will be able to read a book, use playdough, or put head down if they finish.

This week we are happy to announce that our new librarian has started and the library is open for many more activities! See Ms. Suarez's Bio below to get to know her. Welcome, Ms. Suarez!

We continue to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month- This Wednesday is Represent your Favorite Latino Artist! From the art Frida Kahlo to songs of Selena; from Ricky Martin to Salvador Dali, Latino artists have made their mark. Whether you like comedians like George Lopez or playwrights like Lin-Manuel Miranda, take your pick and dress up on Wednesday to represent your favorite Latino Artist!

A friendly reminder to submit absence notes to the front office. Absences add up! Did you know, missing two days or more per month means a student misses more than 10% of the school year? Students will receive an "NC" for no credit on their transcripts even if they passed the class. Attendance matters! Be sure to check your student's attendance regularly at the parent portal: portal.austinisd.org

Reminder: Friday is an A Day

Have a great week, Rebels!

Attendance Reminders/Updates

**90% rule what does it mean?**

If a student drops below 90% in a course, an "NC" is entered instead of a grade. The grade may be passing – but the student did not attend at least 90% of the time. Please contact your student’s Assistant Principal to see what corrective steps must be taken.
