Eligibility Criteria

Travis Early College High School wants our ECHS student population to be a diverse group of students. To meet the intent of this program we place emphasis on selecting students who will be great representatives of Travis and meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Students who are first generation college potential (neither custodial parent has received a four-year degree)
  • Students who would benefit from an accelerated or more rigorous academic high school experience
  • Students who belong to a population that is under-represented in higher education 

The following are key attributes of successful ECHS program students:

  • Commitment to making mature, responsible, independent and productive choices that contribute to growth and success
  • Desire to be challenged and experience rigorous college level and honors-level high school courses, or advanced workforce & career college courses.
  • Making education a priority and engaging in communication, leadership, critical thinking & problem solving.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with peers in high school and college courses, while also engaging respectfully with high school and college teachers, professors and all adults.

Once enrolled, students must maintain a 2.0 college GPA to continue in the program.

About the Texas Success Initiative (TSI)

The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is an assessment designed to determine if a student is ready for college-level course work in the general areas of reading, writing and mathematics. The test will determine whether student is college-ready or what type of course or intervention will best meet the student's needs and to assist in becoming better prepared for college-level course work. 

Once students apply to the ECHS program and are notified of program acceptance, they are required to take the TSI test. Students must meet college-readiness scores in the English Language Arts (ELAR)  section of the test to begin taking college classes at ACC. If they do not meet college readiness when they first take the test, the ECHS program provides TSI preparation and re-testing opportunities for students through AVID classes and afterschool, weekend or summer tutoring.

Students must pass the TSI by the fall of 10th grade and start taking ACC class in the Spring of 10th grade to be elegible for the Associate Degree track. Students who pass the TSI by the summer before 11th grade may have the opportunity to complete the Core Curriculum track. Students who pass the TSI beyond that point, may still be able to complete some ACC courses by the time they graduate depending on their high school schedule availability.
